Globally connected, today and tomorrow
From the container terminals at the Port of Hamburg to the ships of Hapag-Lloyd or from Hamburg Airport high up in the skies – with our investments in the transportation and logistics sector, we are strengthening Hamburg's position as a leading commercial hub.
Hamburg: Hub of the North
It's no coincidence that Hamburg is the gateway to the world. As an indispensable transshipment point for international trade, the Port of Hamburg connects companies and goods worldwide. Hamburg Airport in Fuhlsbüttel serves millions of passengers and thousands of tons of cargo every year. Our investments in transport and logistics reinforce Hamburg's key role in global trade and transportation, ensuring that the city remains an attractive, modern, and competitive business location in the future.
Investments & impact
As a municipal holding company, our portfolio consolidates the key pillars of global trade in Hamburg: the port, the airport, and shipping. Our focus is on providing results-oriented support for our investments. Through targeted portfolio management for the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, we ensure that these key sectors maintain their future viability. In this way, we make a significant contribution to securing and further developing Hamburg's position as one of Europe's leading logistics hubs in the long term.
The transport and logistics sector is a fundamental pillar of the port city's prosperity. Efficient logistics infrastructure is the engine of the local economy, secures tens of thousands of jobs far beyond specific industries, and guarantees the reliable supply of goods to the region. By strengthening Hamburg's global connectivity, our investments create the foundation for stable growth and secure the revenues that benefit the Hanseatic city.
A safe harbor for tomorrow
The future of the port industry is digital, automated, and decarbonized. Our portfolio companies are at the forefront of this transformation, consistently investing in the automation of terminal processes for maximum efficiency and in the modernization of fleets with alternative propulsion systems to make shipping climate-neutral by 2045.
Where ideas take off
Together with the German Aerospace Center, Lufthansa Technik, and the Center for Applied Aviation Research, Hamburg Airport is researching hydrogen technologies for ground handling in the “Hydrogen Aviation Lab,” paving the way for emission-free flying. All maintenance and ground processes can be tested on a converted Airbus A320 for research and development purposes. This field work will benefit the entire aviation industry in the future.
